A company you can trust
Home builders & Renovators
Over the last few years I have received hundreds of phone calls and emails from customers looking for a framing company for their upcoming project. An increasing amount of these customers are homeowners that have decided to take on the roll of General Contractor themselves in an attempt to save the large fees associated with hiring a project management company.
For some, the project is small enough that it makes sense. For others, taking on a full new build, they quickly realize that the money those management companies charge is well earned and well spent. Mistakes made throughout the construction process can be very costly and can add up to more than the 10-15% a third party management company would charge.
Many homeowners find their courage from Youtube videos and Google. They think that the construction process is straight forward and easy. Dig a hole and put in the foundation, hire a framer, put in the windows, shingle the roof, electrical, plumbing, insulation and drywall and now you are ready for your kitchen right? Not quite. There are probably 30+ trades that will go through your house and they all need to be scheduled in the right order. Missing one or two of these trades means that the work already completed is taken apart and then needs to be redone, and paid for twice.
I have been asked by several customers over the years to help them manage their project so it only made sense that I started to offer this service.
I have always put the customer first and I take a great deal of pride when my company receives compliments from both the customer and the trades that follow us. I have heard too many stories about contractors that have taken tens of thousands of dollars and disappeared. This has resulted in people going into debt, the cancellation of major projects or projects being left incomplete and too much stress to write about. With this said, I believe that offering a customized and flexible Project Management/Reno Coach service that adjusts to suit the needs of each homeowner and project, is the best way to serve the customer.
I have been in the construction business for more than 24 years. Framing houses is my specialty and I have acquired a lot of knowledge along the way. I have contacts for many reliable and honest trades that share my values and work ethics ensuring your project is heading in the right direction.
I know if someone is trying to take advantage of the customer. I know if the work completed is sub-par. I know that preventing a homeowner from being ripped off will help me sleep better at night and keep your money in the bank where it belongs.
So how does it work? I can customize my service to suit whatever you need. If you are prepared to do some legwork, contact trades and get quotes, then I can review those quotes and meet on site with both you and them, and go over the work. If you are too busy with your day job, I can help you find the trades and get the quotes, I can visit the site to review the quality of work, I can ensure the right people are arriving at the right time. You tell me how much involvement you would like and I can customize a plan that suits your needs.
The pricing would vary, depending on what you need from me. It can be based on a fixed weekly/monthly price, a fixed project price, a percentage or even a consultation fee. I can guarantee that the price will be fair, affordable and will fit into your budget. I’m here to help so please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

I came to Canada in February of 1996. I started working doing general construction that year but didn’t start my framing journey until October of 1998.
It was right after thanksgiving when I showed up on a subdivision in Bolton to start working for a guy that ran an ad in The Star newspaper.
I had common sense but I had never framed a house before. I learned quick. I spent the next year and a half building houses with conventional roofs (hand cut roofs), this is something not seen as much today.
In June of 2000 I registered PTR Carpentry and on July 4th I started framing my first house, by myself. My first house was completed in 13 days, 2280sqft.
This set the ball rolling and I worked by myself for the next 2 years framing about 12 houses per year.
As the years went on I hired several people and taught them the same way that I learned the trade. Several have gone on to run their own businesses.
When the recession hit in early 2010, the subdivision work dried up and I was forced to move into private work building additions, removing load bearing walls and installing steel beams, framing basements and building custom homes.
The recession was the best thing to happen to PTR as the change helped me build a solid reputation in the field of custom framing.
Over the years I have worked with hundreds of customers. I approach every job with the intention of getting the project off on the right foot and I never leave the job unless the customer is happy. We do what we say we will do and we don’t cut corners.
In 2018 I was approached by the Holmes Group. They asked if I would like to work with them on their upcoming show. They had read my reviews and done some research and decided that PTR was a good fit. I agreed and the relationship continues. We have appeared on several shows over the years and we are proud to support Mike and the rest of the Holmes family.
I have always given guidance and advise to my customers, often, long after I leave.
I have been asked many times ‘why don’t you offer project management services?’ So now I do.
I have learned many things over the years and I’m the first to admit that I don’t know everything.
I will continue to work hard to maintain a solid and honest reputation in this business, whether it’s framing or managing I will always be working for the customers best interest.
FAQ's
What is a Project Manager?
A Project Manager works with you before and during the construction process. They will obtain quotes from the trades and give advice and guidance as to what is needed and when. They will attend the site and meet with the tradespeople, answer questions and make important decisions to keep your project moving forward.
What are the benefits of having a Project Manager?
A Project Manager will make sure you are getting fair quotes and are not being taken advantage of. They will make sure that the right trade is working at the right time so that the work is completed in a logical order. A Project Manager relays your requests to the trades and makes sure they are fulfilled.
Are Project Managers an expensive addition to a projects budget?
A Project Manager can add 10-15% to the overall cost of your project. If you need to take things apart because something was missed, this can be very expensive. I can customize the management fees to fit into your budget. We can agree on a percentage, a fixed fee or even a weekly rate. I would be happy to work with you to make a plan that suits you.
What does a Project Manager do?
A Project Manager works for you to make sure your build goes as planned. They will help you with things you didn’t know you needed. They will coordinate the trades and the inspections and make sure you stay on budget.
What is a Reno Coach?
My Reno Coach services are customized to help where help is needed. If you are happy to do some of the legwork with getting the quotes and meeting the trades, my Reno Coach services could be a good fit for you. The fees can be tailored to reflect the amount of support you need. Reach out and I will be happy to discuss.
How much does it cost for a Project Manager or Reno Coach?
With a package customized to suit your needs, I can make a plan to fit into any budget.
I think I can handle the project myself but I’m not sure what trades come first, can you help with that?
Yes! My Reno Coach services would be perfect for this scenario.
If I hire a Project Manager, what will they do? What will I need to do?
You will get to make all of the final decisions because the Project Manager works for you. I would happily give my recommendation based on my experience. I would bring the quotes to the table but the final decision is yours. I would contact and coordinate the trades, inspect their work, arrange for inspections and arrange deliveries and payments. You would choose all of the finishes for your project and if you need guidance, I can help with that too. Making prompt and final decisions helps to keep your project moving forward quickly.
I only need help with a part of my project, can you help me with just that and then I will handle the rest?
I can work with you for a part of your project or all of it. We can work together on a weekly or monthly basis or I can be hired for consulting only. Whatever you need, I’m here to help!
Why hire PTR to manage my project?
I have been framing houses for over 24 years. I know how to build a house and I know if something doesn’t look right. I’m honest and reliable and I have built a solid reputation in this industry. I work with an open book policy so you can see where the money is going, no surprises, no funny business.
How long does the construction process take?
This depends on the size of the project and how quickly you can make decisions. Over the last couple of years there have been delays in the supply chains. Ordering early and knowing what you want, will make the project move along smoothly and get you back in your home quicker.
